On Friday, August 14, 2020, the Windermere Police Department Foundation announced that it has reached its $100,000 investment goal to establish a scholarship fund in honor of Officer Robert “Robbie” German.(who lost his life on March 22, 2014). According to Town Manager Robert Smith, this investment will enable the foundation to provide scholarships to new officers who will attend the police academy. Windermere Police Chief David Ogden said, “I made a promise that we would always stand by the German family and honor Robbie’s sacrifice. I can’t think of a better way to leave a legacy.”
One scholarship will be given to a deserving recipient each year. Town Manager Smith, Mayor O’Brien, Police Chief David Ogden, and German Family will assemble an application process and qualifications.
Arriving at this investment goal was a community effort, through the sweat equity of Windermere police officers, residents, staff and various generous donations. Town Manager Smith added that the foundation does not have paid staff, so every one involved is a volunteer, keeping German’s legacy living on.
