As U.S. protests continue over police violence and racism, some of them have been met with a federal response. One such place is Portland, Oregon, where local officials believe the presence of federal agents is doing more harm than good. But President Trump has defended his decision to deploy them, calling the protesters, who have been mostly peaceful, “anarchists.” John Yang reports, in the video “Trump’s deployment of federal agents to quell Portland protests draws local ire“, below:
The story of what’s happening in downtown Portland is being told two different ways. And at some point, it comes down to who you believe, in the video “Who do you believe? Federal officers or Portland protesters“, below:

Chris David, a Navy veteran who was struck by unmarked officers in Portland during a protest, speaks to CNN’s Brianna Keilar. CNN has reached out to the US Marshals and has not heard back, in the video “Veteran discusses getting hit by unmarked police in Portland“, below:
It is an unfortunate circumstance for all to be in: federal agents who are under highly stressful situation, fearful of being outnumbered, end up behaving inappropriately. It is best for peaceful protesters to simply stay home or protest away from the courthouse for their own safety. If you do not feel your elected officials are listening to you, then vote them out of the office. Damaging federal property is not the answer. The point of the election is to have the revolution without bloodshed.
