The COVID-19 pandemic has halted much of the education in America, and created opportunities for innovative organizations to fill the void. While Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook pledged $6 million to education projects, Jack Dorsey of Twitter gave $10 million to provide devices and connectivity to students in California, Elon Musk is helping to launch an online, for-profit school in Los Angeles, called Astra Nova School, in September, incorporated by Musk associate Jared Birchall. Astra Nova is inviting “academically serious, creative, and kind students between age 8 and 14” to apply. To find out more about this school, please click HERE.
As far back as in 2014 Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk started a school to teach his five kids, eventually expanding the school as a non-profit school to also include some children of SpaceX employees. He said, at the time, that his kids’ school wasn’t “doing things I thought should be done,” so he hired away his son’s teacher to help found the Ad Astra School. In addition to doing away with formal grade structures, Ad Astra School focused on problem solving , per Musk’s direction, and Musk paid for all the costs involved.
Musk: “I hated going to school when I was a kid,” Musk told his interviewer. “It was torture.” So Elon Musk created a school for his 5 children, described in the video “Elon Musk Created Own School For His 5 Kids“, below:

Back in 2017, Elon Musk talks about the AD Astra, the self-directed learning school he created for his 5 children. He talks about teaching to the problem rather than the tools and why different people learn at different rates and have different passions, in the video “Elon Musk and Ad Astra: How He’s Unschooling His Kids“, below:
