After North Carolina refused to give assurances that Trump could deliver his nomination speech before a packed crowd, Jacksonville FL is set to host portions of the Republican National Convention (RNC). While the Republican National Convention is coming to VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena of Jacksonville, Florida, this August, feelings of Jacksonville residents seem mixed as to whether it’s a good idea amid a pandemic far from over. According to the RABA Research poll commissioned by Republican Voters Against Trump, 49% of these voters did not support Jacksonville hosting President Trump’s nomination speech in August, only 39% supported it, and 57% said they were concerned that the convention would spur a new COVID-19 outbreak while only 43% said they weren’t worried.
Strategic Director of Republican Voters Against Trump, Sarah Longwell, said, “President Trump may be jonesing for adoring crowds, but as we saw this weekend in Tulsa, actual voters are not nearly as excited about attending risky, mass gatherings as Trump is. These results demonstrate that even in a critical county that Trump won in 2016, voters would rather he stay away.”
