Among all of the former Democratic presidential candidates, Andrew Yang has the best and most comprehensive solution to the “I Can’t Breathe” protests, tweeted at: https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1267143565722947590
On May 31, 2020, Andrew Yang tweeted, in italics, below:
There are 18,000 police departments in the US. How is reform possible? One approach would be a new George Floyd Police Misconduct division of the DOJ with a budget of $6 billion a year. Hire thousands of federal agents to investigate police misconduct. Have Val Demings run it.
Followed by more of Andrew Yang’s tweets:
The other issues are training, demilitarization, community-based policing, civilian input and oversight, body cams and transparency, local accountability and officer diversity. Training is likely the biggest driver – officers are taught to shoot to kill within 3 seconds.
An officer suggested to me national training to get away from the “shoot to kill” and replace with intermediate weapons and non-lethal approaches to slow down life-or-death decision-making.
Followed by Anthony J. Mountjoy’s tweet, in italics, below:
Also end the drug war and stop letting cops deal with traffic related offenses. Have a completely different department for that with no fatal means unless they call for backup.
Former presidential candidate and founder of Humanity Forward, Andrew Yang, discusses a new universal basic income pilot program and responds to the Minneapolis riots, in the video “Andrew Yang reacts to protests, reveals details of UBI project“, below:
Throughout history activists, business leaders, economists, and prominent politicians have proposed basic income as a solution to many of the economic ills and injustices our country faces. Andrew Yang has brought the idea to the national stage. Where it goes from here is up to you, in the video “Reflections on Universal Basic Income – The Rest Is Up To You“, below:
