Folks, keep in mind that the Y is working to help our neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity during this time. We’re all facing new challenges due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To help support our community, the YMCA of Central Florida is distributing hundreds of bags of food and other household supplies. Food and supplies will be passed out on a first-come, first-serve basis at various family center locations listed on Thursday, April 30, 2020, 10:00 am-noon, below:

Safety Information

Social Distancing at the Food Distribution Sites
To help keep you safe during the distribution, you will be encouraged to stay within your vehicle at all times. Volunteers and staff will place provisions in your trunk to limit contact and keep everyone as safe as possible.

Additional Details
The safety and health of our staff, volunteers, and community members is of the utmost importance throughout the distribution. All fruits, vegetables, and other items will be prepared and distributed in a safe, clean, and sanitary manner. The Y will also abide by social distancing protocols, including limiting the number of volunteers on-site to fewer than ten and maintaining a distance of six feet between individuals.

With the help of awesome local partners and dedicated volunteers, the Y hosted food distribution at the Blanchard Park YMCA and the South Orlando YMCA. We were able to hand out hundreds of bags of food to neighbors in need as we all face the trying times caused by COVID-19. Special thanks to Sysco Central Florida, PepsiCo, and 4Rivers for making it happen, and to everyone who donated their time to help prepare and distribute the food. It’s the power of our community coming together, although we’re apart, that makes us proud to be a part of your Y family.

Let us be wary as the country will be reopened. Let’s be cautious and wear facial coverings in public and continue practicing social distancing (at least 6 feet from others), for COVID-19 is not yet gone. It does appear that U.S. is deficient in testing and contact tracing at the moment. Let’s hope this will soon change. It is not likely that our life will return to normal until 2022, after the vaccine for COVID-19 will become available to general public globally.
