France, Italy, India, UK, and Germany have all extended their lockdowns to tackle the coronavirus. Different countries may be on different schedules in terms of how they would slow the spread of COVID-19 or when to end their lockdowns, but it remains to be true for all that lifting restrictions too quickly may bring about the second wave of COVDI-19 that all nations are fearful of, in the video “Coronavirus explained: How and when to end a lockdown“, below:
According to the European Union’s lockdown blueprint, restrictions should be relaxed gradually and should be targeted. Lockdown should end only when the infections have declined for sustained period, when hospitals have sufficient equipment, and when large scale testing, tracing, and quarantine are in place. More research and information on immunity and/or COVID-19 antibody are needed. Privacy issues are also of concern. Vaccine for COVID-19 is not likely to arrive until after 2021.

White House Plan To Reopen Economy:
- Phase I: vulnerable individuals should shelter in place; social gatherings with 10+ people should be avoided; employees should return to work in phases if possible; non-essential travel should be minimized.
- Phase II: vulnerable individuals should shelter in place; social gatherings with 50+ people should be avoided; non-essential travel can resume; schools & organized youth activities can reopen
- Phase III: vulnerable individuals can resume public interactions; should practice physical distancing; low-risk populations should consider minimizing time in crowds; employers can resume unrestricted staffing; large venues can operate under limited physical distancing protocols
Wide spread testing and contact tracing are important determining factors for the success of reopening the economy.

Donald Trump and his coronavirus taskforce have unveiled a set of federal guidelines for reopening the economy, which comprise three phases but ultimately defer to governors on when and how to return their states to normal. ‘A prolonged lockdown combined with a forced economic depression would inflict an immense and wide-ranging toll on public health,’ he said. In Trump’s plan, the responsibility for opening businesses across the country lies with state, not federal, authorities. Let us be wary as the country is reopened. Let’s be cautious and wear facial coverings in public and continue practicing social distancing (at least 6 feet from others), for COVID-19 is not yet gone.
Asymptomatic COVID-19 case numbers have spiked in China, raising concerns about a second wave of infections. Asymptomatic cases have become a concern as it is thought that carriers can still spread the virus to others. Another 78 people who do not have symptoms have tested positive for the virus. Almost half are in Hubei province. Singapore was initially hailed as the gold standard in how to curb the coronavirus outbreak without shutting down the economy. But this week that all changed with a record number of new infections reported. The government has now closed schools and many businesses for at least a month. Let us be wary as the country is reopened. Let’s be cautious and wear facial coverings in public and continue practicing social distancing (at least 6 feet from others), for COVID-19 is not yet gone. It does appear that U.S. is deficient in testing and contact tracing at the moment. Let’s hope this will soon change. It is not likely that our life will return to normal until 2022, after the vaccine for COVID-19 will become available to general public globally.
