Officials in the United States are preparing for what is expected to be a tough week ahead with the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths expected to peak in the coming days. This comes as the death toll edged closer to 10,000 nationally with more than 1000 dying daily over the last three days. This past weekend President Donald Trump announced the deployment of thousands of medical military personnel to help states ahead of the expected surge, with 1000 boots sent to the epicenter of New York City, in the video “US officials expect a peak in COVID-19 cases“, below:
The first case of human to animal transmission was discovered in the tiger at the Bronx Zoo such that the tiger was tested positive for COVID-19.
President Trump warned that even with strict social distancing, hundreds of thousands of Americans could die from the coronavirus. Meanwhile, overworked New York health workers continue to battle the pandemic, even as Chris Cuomo, brother of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, reveals that he has tested positive, in the video “As Many As 240,000 Americans Could Die From Coronavirus, President Trump Warns, TODAY“, below:
If social distancing and/or lockdown is executed in all 50 states at the same time, 100,000-240,000 Americans may die from COVID-19. But if not every one is practicing social distancing and/or lockdown, the number of deaths may be much much more.
Donald Trump has warned Americans that the toll from coronavirus in the US will be ‘the toughest’ during the next two weeks, saying there will be ‘a lot of death’. According to the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, by Saturday evening more than 305,000 cases of Covid-19 had been confirmed in the US, resulting in more than 8,000 deaths, in the video “‘There will be a lot of death’: Trump warning as Covid-19 cases in US pass 300,000“, below:
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman talks about her new report detailing a memo dated January 29 from White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro that warned of the risk of a pandemic hitting the US. Haberman says it is not known if President Donald Trump saw the memo, in the video “NYT: January memo warned White House of pandemic risks“, below:
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says the U.S. is “struggling” to get the spread of coronavirus under control, in the video “Fauci says coronavirus deaths will keep rising even as new U.S. cases stabilize“, below:
What does effective leadership look like during a crisis? With governors of states struggling with a global pandemic far out in front of the president in response to COVID-19, correspondent Martha Teichner talks with Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland, chairman of the National Governors Association, and with historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, about when governors take the lead in turbulent times – in this case, a defining event for our generation, in the video “The definition of leadership“, below:
So, let’s all try to stay home! Wear mask or scarf or some coverings for mouth and nose when in public area. As for individual citizens, please wash your hands often (each time for at least 20 seconds), get tested if and when you can, stop shaking hands, observe social distancing (staying at least 6 feet from others), be sure to get sufficient rest, be well nourished, exercised, drink plenty of hot water and ginger tea, and decrease unnecessary social contacts.
