Recently I’ve come across a marvelous talk by a Swiss-born British philosopher, author, and speaker, Alain de Botton, who discussed various contemporary subjects and themes, emphasizing philosophy’s relevance to every day life. In this particular talk, Alain de Botton presented how love and marriages of twenty-first century were being shaped by a set of Romantic myths and misconceptions. Sprinkled with his warmth and wit throughout his presentation, Alain de Botton explored the complex landscape of a modern relationship, presenting a realistic case study for marriage and examining what it might mean to love, to be loved, and to stay in love. In this talk, he discusses his stunning new novel The Course of Love, a philosophical novel about modern relationships, in the video “Alain de Botton: On Love, Sydney Opera House“, below:

He also introduces the School’s new book, AN EMOTIONAL EDUCATION, available here: https://bit.ly/2mBpDN5 This lecture was recorded at the Cliveden Literary Festival on the 28th of September, 2019, in the video “Alain de Botton on Emotional Education“, below:
