Today, September 24, 2019, in an address to the nation, the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives is opening the impeachment process. This is the one process that our constitution provides for Congress to remove a president from office for high crimes and misdemeanors. Both Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were convicted in the House, but neither was convicted in the Senate. Richard Nixon was the only President of the United States that was effectively removed from the office, but of his own volition, without impeachment. At 5:00 pm EDT, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she is not forming any new special committee, instead she name checked the chairmen of these six committees (Judiciary, Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, Oversight, Ways and Means, and Financial Services), indicating these six committees would independently pursue their investigations or inquiries for impeachable offenses by President Donald Trump. The most recent discovery is involving President Trump’s own admission in soliciting foreign assistance from Ukraine for digging up dirt on his opponent for his re-election while withholding military aid to Ukraine.
