Alabama passed the country’s most restrictive abortion ban, virtually eliminating all abortions except when the mother’s life is in danger. Here’s why Alabama lawmakers think it’ll hold up in court, in the video “What Alabama’s abortion ban really aims to do“, below:
Truly, the extreme nature of this year’s bill is unprecedented, as indicated by Guttmacher Institute. The Republican controlled states are moving to ban all abortions in a Draconian fashion (check out: The “Fetal Heartbeat” Bill Was Passed In Georgia But Not In Florida), to challenge the Roe v. Wade when there is a solid right wing majority sitting on the Supreme Court. State of Alabama is in a class by itself, completely banning abortions, with no exception for rape or incest. It also criminalizes performance of abortion procedures by doctors, facing up to 99 years. Sponsors of this bill openly said that the purpose of this bill is to get this bill in front of the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wave., in the video “Watch Cory Booker’s Call For Men To Defend Women’s Rights, The Beat With Ari Melber, MSNBC“, below:
Rachel Maddow reports on the absurd extremity of Alabama’s new exceptionless abortion law, and talks with Dahlia Lithwick, senior editor and legal correspondent at Slate, about whether Republicans are correct to think legal challenges to abortion bans, in the video “Republicans Aim To Flip Roe V. Wade With New Alabama Abortion Law, Rachel Maddow, MSNBC“, below:
