Senator Elizabeth Warren, on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, delivered a blistering speech attacking Donald Trump’s war on the law and calling to begin impeachment proceedings for the first time on the Senate floor. The Washington Post’s EJ Dionne tells The Beat he believes “we’re closer to impeachment proceedings than we were even a week ago.” in the video “Watch Senator Warren Call To Impeach Trump On Senate Floor, The Beat With Ari Melber, MSNBC“, below:
There is a growing number of former federal prosecutors, more than 700, are saying Trump would be hit with multiple felony charges now if he were not a sitting president. President Trump is behaving like a monarch rather than the President of the United States, acting as though he is above the law. Now, even Republican former governor and presidential candidate Bill Weld feels the need to consider impeachment at this juncture.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says President Trump has created a “constitutional crisis” by trying to block congress from seeing the full Mueller report and warns she is ready to hold more Trump officials in contempt. Attorney General Bill Barr joked about his own contempt vote, for refusing to handover the full Mueller report to congress. Campaign Director of the Center for American Progress, Juanita Tolliver, tells Ari Melber “if this is a joke in his mind that says a lot about his character.” in the video “Nancy Pelosi: We Now Face A Trump-Made ‘Constitutional Crisis’, The Beat With Ari Melber, MSNBC“, below:
CNN’s Jake Tapper sets the record straight on President Donald Trump’s claim that the Mueller report completely exonerated him, in the video “Jake Tapper sets record straight on Trump’s “exoneration”“, below:
Trump allies are now directing their attacks at Senator Burr of the Senate Intelligence Committee, saying that a Republican shouldn’t cross the President’s family, in the video “Republicans Attacking Richard Burr After Don Jr. Subpoena, Hardball, MSNBC“, below:
‘The Beat’ anchor Ari Melber explains why the U.S. Constitution includes a remedy to remove the president, and gives his two cents about its current application, in the video “Ari Melber: Impeach Or Don’t Impeach?“, below:
People are thirsty for consequences and Ari Melber objectively explains potential consequences of AG Barr’s contempt of Congress: once the Congress holds that vote, it sends to court where an independent judge can rule and can force either the documents to come out or those other sanctions. There are other various enforcement mechanisms (accounting firms, IRS, etc. that would have Trump’s tax returns and people that could be jailed when President can’t., therefore forcing others to follow orders). Congress can also subpoena Robert S. Mueller III and there is no valid way to stop Mueller from testifying in front of the Congress.
Much has been discussed about constitutional crisis. But what exactly is it. In the video “What’s a real constitutional crisis?“, below
Take your pick: constitutional crisis, constitutional confrontation, confrontational crisis, or asymmetrical constitutional warfare. If the Attorney General refuses to comply with the Supreme Court (after Supreme Court has given the order) in turning in documentations or tapes, then it would be at the moment of constitutional crisis because the Constitution does not make provision for the occurrence for such an event. During the Watergate scandal, for investigation of Richard Nixon’s administration, Richard Nixon did comply with the subpoena of the Supreme Court and handed over audiotapes of his conversations. But Donald Trump is no Richard Nixon, for Donald Trump has much less respect or understanding for the law than Richard Nixon. Therefore, it does feel as though the constitutional crisis is quickly approaching on Capitol Hill. Furthermore, there is the issue of psychological factor. According to the book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump” by the assessment of 27 psychiatrists and mental health experts authors, the book described Donald Trump’s psychological weaknesses in ways that make him unfit to be president, in italics, below:
The pattern that emerges of the president is one of rash, short-sighted decision-making, without consideration of consequences. He is protected only by actions on the part of former FBI director James Comey, former White House counsel Don McGahn, and former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski who, in effect, shield the president from himself by refusing or failing to follow his directions. Reckless, impulsive moves that are self-destructive, despite the intention of self-protection, are characteristic of dangerous impairment. They impede Trump’s capacity to prioritize national security. There is no room for consideration of national plans or policies, or his own role in bringing about his predicament and how he might change, but instead a singular focus on how he is a victim of circumstance and his familiar whining about unfairness.
It does appear as though it is agreed by many that Donald Trump is placing himself on the path for impeachment, with continued guilty behavior screaming “Don’t look in the closet”.
The House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s remark came as the congressional showdown with the president over executive privilege escalated sharply, in the video “Nancy Pelosi Says President Donald Trump Is Becoming ‘Self-Impeachable’, Hardball, MSNBC“, below:
Even if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not want to pursue impeachment, the obstruction is now in plain sight that there is no other option but to pursue impeachment. That is why Nancy Pelosi is saying that President Donald Trump is becoming self-impeachable.
Journalist Bob Woodward offers his thoughts on the current state of the Trump presidency to CNN’s Anderson Cooper after President Donald Trump invoked executive privilege over special counsel Robert Mueller‘s report and the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt, in the video “Bob Woodward: I think we have a governing crisis“, below:
