On Saturday, April 13, 2019, world class cellist, Yo-Yo Ma visited Laredo, Texas, at a time when political debates about immigration threaten to drive a wedge between those who live on opposite sides of the Rio Grande. Mr. Ma spoke, “We build bridges, not wall…this country is not full” and performed by the International Bridge in an effort to highlight how so much more unites American and Mexican cultures than divides them, in the video “Yo-Yo Ma’s thoughts on a building a wall on the border“, below:
Yo-Yo Ma has performed for eight American presidents and has received the National Medal of the Arts, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the J. Paul Getty Medal Award, among other honors.
