On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, Attorney General William P. Barr faced sharp questions from House Democrats about his handling of the Mueller report. Barr acknowledged that he chose not to release the summaries prepared by Mueller’s team and Barr insisted that he did not mischaracterize Mueller’s findings. Barr promised that the Mueller report will be out soon, with parts being redacted/blacked out. Barr insisted that he is under no legal obligation to hand over the full, unredacted Mueller report to Congress. Democrats said if Barr would even scrub one line, they would issue a subpoena and take DOJ (Department of Justice) to court. Nancy Cordes explains in the video “Barr promises to release Mueller report within a week“, below:
Attorney General William P. Barr appeared before members of the House Appropriations Committee April 9, where he answered questions on his handling of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report, in the video “What Barr said about the Mueller report, in 3 minutes“, below:
Rep. Ed Case, D-Hawaii, asked U.S. Attorney General William Barr in a hearing whether Barr thought that there was any circumstance that any member of Congress would have access to the full Mueller report. “We’re sitting here, from my perspective, with virtually unlimited discretion for you to redact from that document,” Case said. “And maybe if I trusted my government more, I would be comfortable with that.” Case said he was looking for some way that Barr’s discretion would be subject to oversight. Barr said that, when the report was ready for release, he would give it to the chairmen of the judiciary committees and discuss what additional information they wanted and why, in the video “WATCH: Will Barr let any members of Congress see the full report?“, below:
Attorney General William Barr appeared on Capitol Hill Tuesday, April 9, 2019, to discuss his agency budget. With prompting from House Democrats, he also talked about when Congress and the public will see the Mueller report and how much of it Barr will have redacted. Lisa Desjardins joins Judy Woodruff with that update, plus fallout from the departure of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and immigration policy, in the video “Barr’s congressional appearance suggests parties are on a ‘collision course’ over Mueller“, below:
Democrats say that they would like to see this unredacted information behind closed doors in what they call SCIFS. But Barr is not inclined to release this information at all. So the two parties are on a collision course over the Mueller report.

It is pretty obvious that Mueller had already provided a summary that may have differed from the summary of AG Barr. Perhaps that was the reason why AG Barr was not interested in having Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller reviewing Barr’s summary prior to releasing Barr’s summary to the public.
If AG Barr will not be willing to release the full, unredacted Mueller report, perhaps Democrats can simply subpoena Robert S. Mueller III and get the report directly from Mueller.
Without transparency, each day, few more steps down the slippery slope toward a banana republic….
