On Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at 240 to 190 vote, the House passed the most significant gun control measure in more than two decades, by approving the first two bills aiming at broadening the federal background check system for firearm purchases, the H.R.8 (the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, requiring background checks of all firearm sales) and H.R.1112 (the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019, strengthening the background check procedures (from 3 days to 10 days) federal firearms licenses or dealers would have to follow before selling or transferring a firearm.). House Democrats pushed the legislation through, mandating federal criminal background checks on all gun sales, including private transactions. But the Republican controlled Senate may not pass these bills and the White House has already signaled that it will veto these bills. So, if you are in support of these bills, be sure to write, email, text, and call your Senators to ask them to vote in favor of these bills.
