Don’t you some times feel as though at a blink of an eye, you’re living in the sci-fi future? On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, the Tesla CEO Elon Musk announces that the Tesla’s full self-driving feature will be completed by the end of 2019. Furthermore, he adds, by the end of 2020, it will be so capable that you’ll be able to snooze in the driver seat while the car can take you from your parking lot to wherever you’re going. He states these predictions on a podcast with Cathie Wood and Tasha Keeney of Ark Invest.
During a podcast interview with the money management firm Ark Invest, Musk indicates “I think we will be ‘feature complete’ on full self-driving this year, meaning the car will be able to find you in a parking lot, pick you up, take you all the way to your destination without an intervention this year. I am certain of that. That is not a question mark.”

At this point, Tesla customers who would purchase with the extra $5,000 (which would have been $3,000 between October 2016 and October 2018) can unlock their vehicles’ Enhanced Autopilot feature, simpler than what Musk is promising. This technology “guides a car from a highway’s on-ramp to off-ramp, including suggesting and making lane changes, navigating highway interchanges, and taking exits,” according to the Tesla’s driver’s manual. Tesla has said that every car that Tesla produced since October of 2016 is equipped with all the hardware needed to drive itself.
The success of Tesla is critically important for the future environment and sustainability of planet earth. We wish every one working in and on Tesla electric vehicles health and productivity in years to come.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk gives amazing interview for Kara Swisher’s Recode Decode podcast on November 2, 2018. Elon releases his plans to make electric supersonic jet in near future, in the podcast in 2018, “Elon Musk on Tesla Profitable, Supersonic Electric Jet and Bad Journalists“, below:
Introductory lecture of the MIT Self-Driving Cars series (6.S094) with an overview of the autonomous vehicle industry in 2018 and looking forward to 2019, including Waymo, Tesla, Cruise, Ford, GM, and out-of-the-box ideas of boring tunnels, flying cars, connected vehicles, and more. This covers the state of the art in terms of industry developments and not the perception and planning algorithm development. The latter will be covered in detail in future lectures.
