On Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, a new Senate Bill introduced drug law to legalize marijuana use nationwide. The Oregon Senator, Ron Wyden, who introduced the bill said in a statement, “The federal prohibition of marijuana is wrong, plain and simple. Too many lives have been wasted, and too many economic opportunities have been missed.”
The Democratic takeover of Congress could mean marijuana could be legalized by the end of the year. James Higdon, who wrote about the likelihood of federal legislation of marijuana for Politico, joins CBSN to discuss, in the video “Report: Marijuana on track to be legalized by the end of the year“, below:
More than half the 50 states already allow sale of marijuana for medical use, and California has become one of a number of states that have legalized recreational pot. NBC’s Jacob Soboroff reports on the “green rush” in the town of Desert Hot Springs, California, and joins Megyn Kelly live to discuss the controversial legalization trend, in the video “How Legalized Marijuana Is Changing One California Town, Megyn Kelly Today“, below:
Congress passed the Controlled Substances Act in 1970. More than a quarter century later, a section of that law helped states to legalize marijuana. To understand why and how U.S. government relies on states to enforce its ban on weed for decades, check out the video “Why legalizing marijuana is stuck in legal limbo“, below:
