On this 26th day of the partial government shutdown, with U.S. secret service and the Department of Homeland Security hamstrung by furloughs, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi proposed, in her letter to President Trump, delaying the upcoming State of the Union Address until the government reopens. She also suggested the president could submit his speech in writing. Major Garrett reports in the video “Pelosi asks Trump to delay the State of the Union“, below:
“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29,” Nancy Pelosi writes in the letter dated Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
