Did you know that the best time for planting trees in Florida is in January? Did you know that cities/towns where there are more trees planted tend to have much lower crime rates?
It was my pleasure to have had the chance to chat (in the video below) with the energetic and resourceful Chairperson of Town of Windermere Tree Board, Theresa Schretzmann-Myers (theresamyers@earthlink.net), a Miami native who has done much for preserving the natural beauty of Windermere and Central Florida region. In addition to sharing much knowledge and experience about caring of our lawns and trees, Chairperson Schretzmann-Myers also shed some light on various requirements for any city in being a Tree City USA: 1. Tree Ordinance (to produce our trees); 2. Hosting an Arbor Day Festival (to educate the public about the importance of planting trees for our ecosystem and our health). So, be sure to view the video below.
There will be: native, flowering & fruit trees, “Ask the Arborist” booth, food-arts-music, nature education, plant sales, prize drawing and silent auction, bounce house, Smokey Bear, nature education, and the “Geezers in the Treezers” Tree Climbing Competition at our beloved Windermere Treebute. All proceeds will benefit Windermere Tree Board Arbor Tree Fund.
