After posting about impact of red tide algal blooms in southwest Florida coastal area, I am in great need of good news. So, it was very timely to find Chris Castro‘s message about this terrific news, below, in italics:
This morning we unveiled the 114 KW #solar array on top of the new LEED-certified Records & Permitting Building for the City of Orlando – Government. This array marks a major milestone for the City as our first #NetZero energy facility and pushes the mark of over 10% of all City operations powered by renewable energy, on track to meet our 100% goals by 2030.
This array will produce enough electricity every year to power 1 single-family home in #Orlando for 15 years and have some amazing environmental benefits such as reducing our annual greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 26 cars off the road, eliminating 13,000+ gallons of gasoline, or planting 3,000 trees every year.
The City will see $112,000 in net savings over the lifetime of this project, making it not just good for the planet, but also our pocketbook. Major props to Lisa Pearcy, Jeff Benavides, and the 15 lightyears team for the great work in making this a reality in a short window. #GreenWorksOrlando #ThisisOrlando #Readyfor100 #ActonClimate @ Orlando, Florida.
