Ninety-nine days before the Mid-term election, on July 29, 2018, President Donald J. Trump tweeted,
“I would be willing to ‘shut down’ government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall! Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!”
President Donald Trump threatened to push the government into shutdown ahead of the coming appropriations deadline in September if Congress does not fund his border wall and change the nation’s immigration laws. CNN’s Boris Sanchez reports, below:
If Trump’s demands below are not met, he will veto a spending package, which will lead to government shutdown on Oct. 1, 2018, weeks before midterm elections:
- Funding for border wall
- Ending “catch & release”
- Changing legal immigration system
- Ending sanctuary cities
