My favorite radio station has been WMFE90.7 ever since my family moved to Florida from Illinois more than eleven years ago. So, it was my pleasure to have the opportunity to visit WMFE90.7 station at 11510 E. Colonial Dr., Orlando, FL, for the “Inside the Studio: June Business After Hours Sponsored by 90.7 WMFE” Asian American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) event sponsored by WMFE, on Thursday, June 28, 2018.
Asian American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) events are always very well planned out, hospitable, and informative. This time I learned from President and General Manager of WMFE90.7 LaFontaine E. Oliver that 16% of the Americans now own a smart speaker (e.g. Alexa of Amazon, or Sonos), more than doubling the ownership from Spring of 2017 of 7%, and the smart home market is expected to be a $25 billion industry by 2020. Mr. LaFontaine E. Oliver spoke on the topic of new technological devices such as smart speakers that help to bring radio into audience’s or listeners’ homes. His presentation was followed with Board Director Vi Ma’s introduction of future events at AACC, door prize drawing, new member introduction (of yours truly), and more mingling.
