Why Is Trump So Chummy With Russia ?

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

(Please click on red links & note magenta)
The 44th G7 summit, otherwise known as Group of 7, is currently underway in Charlevoix (Quebec), Canada. The Group of Seven or G7 is a group consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These seven countries represent more than 62% of the global net wealth($280 trillion). The G7 countries also represent 46% of the global GDP (gross domestic product) based on nominal values; and 32% of the global GDP based on purchasing power parity. The European Union is also represented at the G7 summit. The annual G7 leaders summit is attended by the heads of the government. Generally each country would host the summit once every 7 years.
Excerpt below, in italics, is from wikipedia on Group of Seven:
On March 24, 2014, the G7 convened an emergency meeting in response to the Russian Federation’s annexation of Crimea at the official residence of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the Catshuis in The Hague. This location was chosen because all G7 leaders were already present to attend the 2014 Nuclear Security Summit hosted by the Netherlands. This was the first G7 meeting neither taking place in a member nation nor having the host leader participating in the meeting. On June 4, 2014, leaders at the G7 summit in Brussels, condemned Moscow for its “continuing violation” of Ukraine’s sovereignty, in their joint statement and stated they were prepared to impose further sanctions on Russia. This meeting was the first since Russia was expelled from the G8 following its annexation of Crimea in March.
President Trump’s comments saying that Russia should be at the negotiating table, in the video below:
Donald Trump’s new comments on Russia are causing a split with allies. Fmr. NSC staffer Ned Price says Trump is “trying to destroy” the international order and furthering Putin’s goals. Jennifer Rubin, Neera Tanden, and Yamiche Alcindor join Katy Tur, below:
“We should remind ourselves why the G8 became the G7-it was after Russia illegally annexed Crimea. Since then we have seen malign activity from Russia in a whole variety of ways…. Before any conversations can take place about Russia rejoining, it needs to change its approach.”
Response from Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska, in italics, below:
“This is weak. Putin is not our friend and he is not the President’s buddy. He is a thug using Soviet-style aggression to wage a shadow war against America, and our leaders should act like it.”
Senator Chris Murphy comments that “It may soon become G6. We are on the verge of being kicked out of G7…. You can see now why the Russian government cared so much about getting Donald Trump elected. I think Putin is getting exactly what he wanted. He’s paid no substantial price for interfering with our election. He is now moved one inch inside of Crimea or Ukraine and now he is being let back into the club. The message coming from last week and this week: if you’re a friend of the United States, you get treated very shabbily. If you’re enemy of the United States, you get top treatment.” (transcribed from the video that’s no longer available)
Former Senior Director of National Security Council Ned Price further pointed out, “Donald Trump is not only alienating United States from our allies (our European and Canadian allies), he is actually trying to do something much more dangerous. He is trying to subvert, to erode, to destroy the rule-based international order that United States had built after WWII and we have lead ever since. Frankly, this is what Vladimir Putin has long wanted…more than to tarnish the America’s image…more than to be seen as on par with the American President. Vladimir Putin has wanted to tear down this order, this order, in some ways that has ensured America’s hegemony over the past seven decades and to replace it with something in his own image. And just as Donald Trump is saying all of these outrageous things, Vladimir Putin is in China. He is in China meeting with President Xi. Together they will build their own version of the G8. If that is the outcome. If our G8 is subverted to an international order that Vladimir Putin built, that would not be in our interest certainly.” (transcribed from the video that is no longer available)
Is this the sign of a leader that is trying to shift the world order from democratic system toward dictatorship?
