Becoming Involved in Making Orange County a Sustainable Community

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

(Please click on red links & note magenta)
Would you like to take part in making our community a more prosperous, livable, and healthy place for all of our residents and guests now and in the future? Have you ever wondered why apartment complexes are built in certain places? Why did the liquor store open up down the street instead of at a local supermarket? How do you determine where parks and schools should go?
Citizen Planner Academy is a series of classes designed to promote citizen engagement in sustainable decision making by developing knowledge of the planning process, and to provide an introduction to various planning disciplines. Participants will learn about the Orange County land development process using role-playing exercises and Orange County’s Interactive map. There will be the free Citizen Planner Academy-Planning Basics on Jan. 27, 2018, 9:00 am-noon, at Orange County Internal Operations Center 1, 450 East South Street, Orlando, FL 32801 . Registration ends on Jan. 26, 2018. There will be plenty of parking spaces available. Please be sure to bring a sweater or jacket because classroom tends to get a bit chilly at times. Each year the core courses, Planning Basics and Sustainability, and a series of special topics are offered. The Academy is open to all Orange County citizens;however, registration is required. Sign-in begins a half hour before the class starts. Light refreshments will be served. All classes are held at the Internal Operations Center, 450 E. South Street, Orlando, FL 32801, unless otherwise noted.
