Scouting For Food
Dear Friends & Neighbors,

(Please click on red links & note magenta)
The holidays are quickly approaching and local food banks are needing your help more than ever. Scouting For Food (SFF) is coming to Keene’s Pointe on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, and Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. Scouting For Food helps local food banks to serve the Central Florida community while giving our Cub Scouts and their siblings the chance to have fun and learn how to be of service.
To learn more about Scouting For Food, please view the excerpt from wikipedia, in italics, below:
Scouting for Food is an ongoing annual program of the Boy Scouts of America, begun in 1985 by the Greater Saint Louis Area Council. The program involves collecting food for local food banks. It is organized at the local level throughout the country. Scouting for Food is a project rooted in the very foundation of the Scouting movement and its dedication to implement the Scout Slogan and do a good turn daily. Each year, local Cub and Boy Scouts leave plastic bags for their neighbors soliciting canned food items. One week later, the Scouts return to pick up and deliver the bags of food to a local food bank. Or the Boy/Cub Scouts will stand outside major food retailers (with permission) soliciting donations from shoppers. The donations will usually be delivered directly to the local food bank that day.
Keene’s Pointe residents, to participate in this meaningful event, look for a printed flyer on your doorknob this Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, so you can simply place non-perishable food items on your doorstep by 8:00 am on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. The Scouts will be coming around the neighborhood to collect all the non-perishable food items that morning.
Due to recent destruction from Hurricane Irma, it is now even more important that you and the Scouts helping out with food collection for our community. The Second Harvest Food Bank helps approximately 15% of the Central Floridians with daily food needs. Please help your local Windermere Cub Scout Pack 225 to make SFF a huge success!
For those of you who live in areas not covered by Windermere Cub Scout Pack 225 or outside of Keene’s Pointe here in Central Florida, please feel free to contact Second Harvest Food Bank directly to find out when/where will be the best time/place to drop off your offer/sharing of non-perishable food items.
