Kneeling In Request of Compassion

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

(Please click on red links & note magenta)
Normally Windermere Sun does not cover sports events, but the recent occurrence at multiple NFL football games requires all of our attention, for it concerns the health and welfare of our entire nation. Over the social media there’s been much discussion from both sides. To those who could not believe that this is happening, I would like to say:
It is only because U.S.A. is a more tolerant and diversed culture that the minority would “dare” to express their true emotions. These NFL football players are expressing that they feel the police view them (African Americans) as fair game (they can be killed any time). Did you see those videos of some African Americans gunned down by their local police without cause?! Did you see the statistics on percentage of African Americans in prisons compared to other racial groups? Windermere downtown proper may be a rarified place where people and police are gentle and reasonable and such blatant disregard for human life does not exist. But in many parts of the USA and the world, there are those whose lives are wasted because others have treated them with discrimination or due to lack of education or sympathy or empathy for others. In order not to divide our nation, we need to come together, to find what we all have in common and to be able to empathize with those who are suffering. That is what the American flag truly represents, an ideal of a nation where people, despite their differences, can come together to break bread and become neighbors. It is because of this ideal, the belief that we can all coexist, that these NFL football players are expressing their view by kneeling. It is the most respectful way for a group of people tearing inside for so many wasted lives of their own racial group. They are simply trying to say, “please, do not kill my fellow brothers for no reason.”
