About 5000-6000 marchers showed up at Orlando Sister March ( Lake Eola Amphitheater, 195 N. Rosalind Ave., Orlando, FL, on Saturday, January 21, 2017, 1:00 p.m.) in support of The Women’s March at Washington. These Floridians are extremely peaceful, loving, and inclusive demonstrators that former President Obama would have been very proud of them. There was no animosity nor antagonistically resentful sentiment. Perhaps it is due to our beautifully sunny Florida weather, 80 degree Fahrenheit even on a January afternoon, Floridians are simply interested in showing our solidarity from different groups (regardless one’s age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, economic or social backgrounds), to help our newly elected President Trump to understand that Floridians are united in interest in equality, inclusiveness, fairness, peace, and justice for all. I met a wide range of people of all age groups (from infant to a woman in her 80’s), ethnicity (full color spectrum), backgrounds (students, teachers, nurses, janitors, CEO’s of companies, entrepreneurs, etc.), who are speaking up and showing up, declaring their desire to fear no more (of war or inequality), to stand up in the name of love to support equality for all (in pay, in health care, in reproductive rights, in all kinds of treatments). There was no sign of police presence and there was no need of police presence. I cannot help but truly sense that this is not merely a demonstration but a movement.
The world looks to USA with incredulity for we are the ones who dare to attempt the unbelievable/seemingly impossible. So, we have some one, Donald Trump, with no experience in elected office, as our 45th President. But we, Floridians and all residents of other 49 states of USA, will try to enable our inexperienced President to do the right thing, via demonstrations or via tweets. I believe these demonstrators come from the source of love, equality, and inclusiveness. Allow me to share with you some of their messages, below:
