II.Speakers
After my father developed Parkinson about eight years ago, I did a lot of research and found that there is a definite correlation between the amount of pesticides/insecticides exposure to Parkinson. This has motivated me to always look for organic or pesticide/insecticide free food and products for my family. So, I’ve invited two speakers today to guide us to better understand organic food and products in order to increase our odds of health and longevity.
A. Luc Duytsche of Luc & Sonia Duytsche’s A Natural Farm
We find out that A Natural Farm functions on chemical-free environment (no pesticides, insecticides, etc.) to grow all of their plants and produce. Luc also helps us to understand why A Natural Farm grows such high quality and organic products without being certified organic: to reduce costs and to remain small. We also find out ways in which Luc manages to enrich his soil through natural products such as mushroom and fungi. etc. He holds free educational classes to teach people how to plant and grow trees and edible plants during growing or harvesting season. So if you are interested in learning how to grow certain trees and edible plants, be sure to check A Natural Farm web site for future classes. Even though these classes and workshops are free, we’d highly recommend that you also purchase some trees or edible plants when you attend these classes at Howey-in-the-Hills, to practice what you learn from these classes. His plants look very healthy! He also welcome groups from schools or organizations to his farm for classes. If you are prone to develop allergies or dislike the use of pesticides/insecticides on your food products, then getting edible plants from Luc’s natural farm might be just what you need.

B. David MacLean of SOS (Superior Organic Solutions)
We did an interview and post on David MacLean previously at Maitland Farmer’s Market. He’s had decades of knowledge and experience in/with the organic industry. David helped us to understand not only the different organic fertilizers and products that would be much healthier for us to use in our environment, he also helped to shed lights on the changing attitude (more accepting in present days) toward organic products in recent decade. I suspect much of it may due to the fact that consumers now are much more aware of many potential health risks (Parkinson, allergies, etc.) involved in products that are not organic. But upon further discussion about the certification process of organic products, many local farmers do not go through the certification process (even if they are using organic farming techniques) due to cost. Some of the audience question the validity of the organic certification process. So I believe the best way for consumers to really be ascertained of what they are getting is by getting to know their small local farms and farmers, to pay attention to the way these farmers are practicing their farming and fertilization techniques. It is important to know who is growing the food that you are serving on your table for your family. If possible or interested, it may not be a bad idea to get to know Luc (352-536-3112, anaturalfarm@gmail.com, www.anaturalfarm.com) and David (407-535-8470, dave@superiororganicsolutions.com, www.superiororganicsolutions.com ) , contact them, attend Luc’s educational classes, purchase some of his trees and edible plants, and purchase some of David’s organic fertilizers and soil amendments, consult David about soil analysis, and perhaps you would consider starting your own gardens/farms and grow some of your own food.
As for the organic certification process, it would serve every one well if the process may be further streamlined and reduced in cost so more farmers may consider participating in the process. It might also be a good idea for local farmers in different communities to establish their own organic certification agencies. In my experience, distributed process/services always end up costing less than centralized process/services and providing more effective services.
