Maker Faire Orlando 2016
Dear Friends & Neighbors,

(Please click on red links & note magenta)
To be quite honest, I had no idea what to expect at Maker Faire Orlando 2016 (between Oct. 22-23, 2016), at Central Florida Fairgrounds. All I knew was that Maker Faire Orlando is a community-organized, family-friendly celebration featuring local do-it-yourself science, art, rockets, robots, crafts, technology, music, hands-on-activities, and more. It’s an event where people show what they are making and sharing what they are learning. Maker Faire Orlando is produced by The Maker Effect Foundation.
I arrived on Sunday (Oct.23, 2016) afternoon to check out this event, supposedly springing up all over the country and even in different parts of the world. Once I got there, purchased my bracelet ticket,
I was surprised to find over 300 exhibits, both indoor and outdoor, spread across the Central Florida Fairgrounds. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable. Kids and adults were all curiously exploring different medium, learning, making, and sharing. What immediately caught my attention was the hamster wheel built for human to power the making of Sno Cones.
Kids of different age groups were excitedly treading, making their sno cones. In some way, adults and children are very much alike, all treading their respective wheels in the process of hoping to receive that prize/carrot/sno cone upon completion of their tasks.
Among hundreds of makers with their own creations, there seems to be multiple makers utilizing 3D printing technology to conjure up their creations, to name a few: SeeMeCNC
and ImmersedN3D.(ImmersedN3D.com is going through momentary transition, so be sure to check back and please view video below for more of ImmersedN3D)
Orlando N-trak Club took up a large portion of one of the buildings, displaying their 5 year+ project modeling railroad/train track from Jacksonville, FL to Folkston, GA. At some point, I even bumped into the founder of Maker Faire Pittsburgh, in an extremely colorful and lyrical outfit. Many say that a picture is worth a thousand words….then a video must worth 30,000 words per second (since 1 second of video has 30 frames/pictures in it, most of the time). Allow me to share with you photos above and videos below of what one may find at Maker Faire Orlando….Enjoy!
If you have not heard or attended the Maker Faire Orlando or Maker Faire elsewhere, consider taking a look next time Maker Faire is in your city/town. For it’s a time and place when/where people of any age may have some fun while learning and sharing. Why should the kids have the monopoly on “Having Fun”…don’t you agree?
