I honestly did not anticipate such a huge turn out at Turkey Lake of Bill Frederick Park of Orlando on Oct. 15, 2016, in such early part of the event, at 10:15 am.

Multiple traffic/parking moderators were needed to insure smooth parking experience.
As we approached the lake,
I could hear the sounds of the drums mixed with human chatters and hollers. But they were soon all subsumed by the crisp and yet mellifluous melodies radiated from the two-stringed Chinese violin, Erhu.

Allow me to share some video recordings I’ve made of Erhu and Dizi performance by Changkui Tang above and Martial Arts performance by Sifu Sam Winters during the Asian Cultural Expo/International Dragon Boat Race of Orlando 2016, below:
Then there is also the traditional Philippine dance, Tinikling.
The dance involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance. It is traditionally danced to rondalla music, a sort of serenade played by an ensemble of stringed instruments which originated in Spain during the Middle Ages. The dance imitates the movement of the tikling birds as they walk between grass stems, run over tree branches, or dodge bamboo traps set by rice farmers. Dancers imitate the tikling bird’s legendary grace and speed by skillfully maneuvering between large bamboo poles.

As a matter of fact, the IDBF, International Dragon Boat Federation (Simplified Chinese: 国际龙舟联合会) is the international governing body for the team water sport of dragon boat racing. The IDBF was founded by representatives from Australia, People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Norway, Philippines, Singapore and the USA in Hong Kong on June 24, 1991. As of Jan. 1, 2008, there are 62 countries or territories with membership of the IDBF, with a further 12 Countries with a known interest in the sport. Considering Florida is a state with many bodies of lakes, it is not too surprising that there would be a lot of Floridians taking an interest in this water sport. What is most wonderful about this water sport is the collaborative team effort from such diverse groups of individuals, truly reflecting the spirit of America!
This is perhaps one of the biggest festivals/celebrations I’ve seen in Central Florida so far for it is essentially a composite of International Dragon Boat Race, Asian Cultural Expo, Food Truck Affair, and People and/or Families That Enjoys Picnics & Outings. This is also the first time for me to see any pink Orlando Police car parked any where! It’s a wonderful day for Central Floridians to come out to enjoy food, music, martial arts, dance performances, learning more about health, different cultures, and soaking in our beautiful sunshine. Hey, I even got a chance to pass out some flyers, trying to help to explain why it is important to Vote “NO” on Amendment 1 in November in order for Floridians to invite more sunshine into our Sunshine State.
