It is important to be well informed before making a decision and investment on solar installation for your home or business. So, Windermere Sun has gathered some questions you may want to ask your potential solar installers, below:
- Who is the founder/president of the company?
- How long has the company been in business?
- Will the company give me a free estimate first and a firm quote once we’re ready to sign the contract?
- If there should be any modification or change to the contract later, how is it addressed and what kind of time frame?
- Do I have the right to cancel the contract? If so, how is it addressed and what kind of time frame?
- Is there any system performance guarantee?
- How much saving is there using solar?
- Who will be responsible for getting the permit?
- Who will be designing the system and forecasting the output?
- Will the design meet all the building codes and fire codes?
- Who will be responsible for checking if my roof is ok and can handle the additional weight of the solar panels?
- What are the financing options (cash, loans, lease, PPA, etc.) and how do they differ?
- What are the pertinent rebates and/or incentives available (federal, state, others, etc.) to me?
- How much money is due upfront and what are different payment schedule options?
- Can I add more solar panels or modules later? If so, how much will I be limited to?
- Can I participate in a community aggregated solar or shared solar?
- Can I participate in a solar co-op?
- Will your company be handling the installation or do you contract it out ?
- Who will be responsible for any damage to my roof if any damage should incur during installation?
- Do you recommend a single inverter, mini inverters, or optimizer?
- Will I have access to power during blackout? Should I be connected to the grid?
- How long will the installation take?
- Do I need to be present when installation is taking place?
- What kind of warranty is there for each of the component? Who do I call if there should be problem with each and every one of the components.
- How will this solar installation change the value of my house/this building?
- How will this solar installation change my real estate tax?
- What if I move or sell the building/house ?
- What are the colors of the solar panels/modules?
- Do the neighbors need to be notified about the installation?
- What will be the maximum amount of power that may be produced? How long will they produce at this maximum power level?
- Will the performance degrade with time? How much will they degrade?
- Will trees, leaves, and animals potentially be able to create problems?
- May I see your state license number and is your insurance up to date?
- Will there be a master electrician on site?
- Do you have customer references and/or examples?
- What would be the cost or procedure for future roof replacement?
- How will the difference in temperature or weather condition change the performance level?
- Will you be able to conduct a whole house audit and inform me how I may be able to reduce my energy demands optimally?
- Can you also quote a canopy system, a ground mounted system, or a tracking system?
- How much solar energy is needed to charge an electrical vehicle?
