Katy Tate, Recipient of Tremaine’s Outstanding Alum Award, Understands That To Dance Is To Celebrate Being Alive

Do you remember those moments of joy and exhiliration of discovery….seeing the ocean for the first time in your life….receiving a gift for the first time….being able to ride a bike for the first time….being kissed the first time….being missed the first time….getting a job the first time….getting a client for the first time…..each and every one of those moments that I/you/we recall, I/you/we remember it with the need to Dance for Joy…..
It is no wonder that one would find Dance of many forms throughout human history, in any place, in any culture, at any time. It speaks to those memorable events in all of our lives. To Dance Is Human, To Dance Is To Celebrate, To Dance Is To Be Alive….
Wikipedia explains that: Dance is a performance art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value, and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture. Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period or place of origin.

Katy Tate grew up on the convention circuit, with creative and entrepreneurial parents. She was a scholarship student at Tremaine’s Studio in Los Angeles and Dancer of the Year in 1998 at Tremaine’s Studio. She moved on to stage work at Walt Disney World while performing and choreographing for Honda, Adidas, Harley Davidson, Universal, etc. She also performed in the shows Fashionista’s and Bette Midler’s “The Showgirl Must Go On“.
Katy Tate is currently the Dance Master at The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil, where she works on the artistic team to uphold all dance elements of the show as well as other resident Cirque shows.
Here are some of the many presentation shows that Katy has worked on: Life is Beautiful, The GRAMYS, The View, Dancing With the Stars, Americas Got Talent, and more. In addition to teaching across the country and as a resident artist at UNLV, Katy shares her passion in her charity event called Kick for a Cure (an extension of her dance teacher and mentor Cathy Gillaspie‘s, event Kick for Kare, the dance workshop raising money for Cancer Treatment Centers of America, in memory of two of her inspirational mentors, Cathy Gillespie and Deborah Barnes.)
Ms. Tate has demonstrated great versatility in her approach to career as well as in life. After years of dedication to her dance career, she is now ready for further development in her personal life.
