Ever since I’ve returned from GES2016 in San Francisco, CA, I’ve been playing catchup. Quite a few amazing projects and entrepreneurs  came across my path during GES2016 (Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2016), as demonstrated in last week’s posts. Here are a few more that I’ve encountered during the lunch hour on the first day of the summit (Quizlet, Silicon Straits, ELSA, TheMauiCookieLady), shared below:

ELSA (Co-Founder/CEO Vu Van):  at www.elsanow.io  , providing mobile tool that help language learners with improving their English pronunciation (reducing accents) via voice recognition technology. ELSA was one of the top 3 finalists of the competition at SXSWedu Launch, also the first Vietnamese team ever won at the biggest competition for EdTech startups in the world. 4. Field of Skills and Dreams: With nine specialized training units, Field of Skills and Dreams of Nigeria (Acme Crescent/Aleshinloye Street, near Agidingbi Bus Stop, Ikeja.) is able to help many women in Nigeria to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs and employees. TheMauiCookieLady: The Maui Cookie Lady was selected to be interviewed because of its product (the Best Pineapple Lychee Passion cookie I have ever tasted anywhere!), its progress (within a year, this company moved from local farmer’s market to the shelf on Costco and various resorts and airport in HI), and its founder (Mitzi Toro, some one with both drive and heart). In this video, Mitzi shares her trials and tribulations and great words of wisdom (remain self-funded as long as possible; don’t quit the day job too soon; perseverance; observance of the need of the time and place;avoid loans to start the business) that will be helpful for all the new startups and entrepreneurs-wannabe out there in our brave new world. It’s also interesting to find out about accelerator programs, Costco roadshows, etc.
