Jason Jin, Windermere Native, Places First at Jacksonville Junior Shootout/Register For Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT)-Orange Lake Junior Open (April 23-24), Entry Deadline: April 13, 2016

Our previous post about a Floridian teen entrepreneur reminded me that perhaps I should look even closer for our local young talents.  Windermere, FL may be a small town, but we sure hold many talents! Last month, one of our very own Windermere, FL natives, the 15-year old Jason Jin,

took First Place in Jacksonville Junior Shootout Tournament, March 19-20, 2016, at Cimarrone Golf & Country Club, in Boys 16-18 Division, playing up a division. Jin started each round with a bang by tallying a birdie each day and finished with 144. Another one of our Windermere residents, Trevor Grant, also performed beautifully, came in 9th and finished at 162. Check out the result of this division by clicking HERE. from Tampa, FL, took first place with 151 overall, and two of our Windermere residents Bruce Huang and Dylan Bittenbender tied for 9th at 171 (click HERE for this division).  Ami Gianchandani

of Short Hills, N.J. was first in Girls 14-18 Division and our Tianyi Zhuang from Windermere came in 4th (click HERE for result of this division).  Winners in each division received an invitation to the 2016 Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4, 2016. Top three in each division received an invitation to the 2016 Druh Belts Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan on June 11-13, 2016. Top 10 finishers received points towards year-end honors which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. For a look at the 2016 HJGT-Jacksonville Jr. Shootout, video below:

Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT), based in Jacksonville, FL, is the largest junior golf tour in USA (hosting more  2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour), hosting 275 events in 32 states in 2016. HJGT was founded in 2007, intending to provide junior golfers between age 8-18 opportunities to play exceptional courses in competitive environment. Juniors will compete in 1 of 6 divisions which are: Girls 14-18, Girls Under 13, Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, and Boys under 10. Memberships for the 2016 season start at $159 and tournament fees range from $189-$249 for 36 hole events. Click here to view approximate yardages for each division. The HJGT season is based on a calendar year and players earn points throughout the season towards year end honors beginning January 1.

HJGT will be hosting the Orange Lake Jr. Open coming up on April 23-24, 2016, at Orange Lake Resort Golf, The Reserve, in Kissimmee, FL, at 8505 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee, FL 34747, (407)239-1050, with a championship course (18 holes, Par: 71, 6505 yards, designed by Joe Lee, Mike Dasher).   It is expected to attract many golfers from the Central Florida area, with some of the Windermere residents already having signed up.

Scottish-style golf is featured on the front nine; while the towering pines, majestic oaks, winding fairways and flowing water on the back nine are reminiscent of the Carolinas. This course has multiple sets of tee boxes to ensure that all skill levels can enjoy a challenging round. The Reserve’s 18 holes and 6,505 yards of expansive greens were specifically redesigned to be in harmony with our carefully preserved wetlands to give you the taste of natural Florida. This scenic course is also great for family play. We have practice facilities with several driving ranges available during the day and one at our Reserve course lighted for nighttime use along with practice putting greens at each course. (provided by HJGT)

The Orange Lake Junior Open is a two-day, 36-hole event. Both rounds will begin with a double tee start from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Registration is $209 for members and $259 for non-members. The Orange Lake Junior Open is open to all golfers between the ages of 8-18. The event will have Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking (JGS), American Junior Golf Association performance stars (AJGA), Golfweek ranking, winners in each division will receive in an invitation to the 2016 Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4, 2016, top three in each division will receive an invitation to the 2016 Druh Belts Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan on June 11-13, 2016, and top-10 finishers receive points towards year end honors which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
