Helping Our Community By Recycling Our E-Wastes

Dear Friends & Neighbors,
(Please click on red links & note magenta)
In this digital age of ours, the prevalent belief that “newer is better” has helped to generate much e-waste (electronic garbage from yesterdays). Inside of our disposed old computers there is lead, cadmium, chromium, polyvinyl chlorides, mercury, etc. All of these materials have known toxicological effects ranging from brain damage, kidney disease, to mutations, cancers, etc. But precious metals from these electronics can be recycled, helping to save energy, natural resources, and reduce pollution. Therefore, it is a good idea that these materials are properly disposed and its reusable components be recaptured.
Let’s take a look at what’s been done in some other parts of the country and world, below:
Examples of electronic wastes that are accepted, free of charge and no appointment necessary, to residents of unincorporated Orange County are, below:
- computers
- monitors
- flat screen TVs (rear projection TVs are not accepted)
- printers
- fax machines
- VCRs
- cell phones
- DVD players
- stereos
Remember, items that are not accepted into this program include, below:
- lamps
- household appliances (vacuum cleaners, irons)
- kitchen appliances (microwaves, coffee makers, toasters)
- cords and wires
- video games
- fans
- power tools (gas, battery, or electric)
The electronic waste items are accepted 7 days a week, from 8:00 am-5:00 pm, at:
PERMANENT HHW COLLECTION FACILITIES (Orange County Landfill, 5901 Young Pine Road, Orlando, FL, Monday-Sunday; or McLeod Road Transfer Station, 5000 L.B. McLeod Road, Orlando, FL, Wed. & Sat.)
Let’s recycle our e-wastes to help improve our environment, conserve our natural resources, and save our energy.
