Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Is there any restaurant in your part of the town that you regularly frequent? Well, for us, it’s Chipotle Mexican Grill, the place where Food With Integrity Is Served! This is the FIRST fast food restaurant I know of that serves non-GMO food from their vegetables to their animal products. Thanks to our daughter for introducing Chipotle to us after her first year of living on a college campus!

As a matter of fact, not too long ago (in Feb., 2015), Chipotle stopped serving their carnitas (naturally raised pork, braised for hours, then shredded) at about one-third of its 1,800 restaurants after suspending a supplier that had violated its standards of treating their animal humanely. Chipotle insists on pork from pigs raised in humane conditions, with ample room to roam instead of being raised in cramped pig pens. Chipotle founder and co-CEO Steve Ells has since found a new supplier that can help to fill the gap and is now conducting on-site visits to examine every aspect of the supplier’s operation. Mr. Ells is expecting the supply of pork at Chipotle to be gradually increasing over the summer and be back in full supply during autumn. It is this kind of insistence on “Food With Integrity” that has won the hearts and support of many consumers. Take a look at their constant long lines since February, 2015…

this tells us what the consumers really want: they are willing to pay a bit more for organic, natural, pasture-raised dairy, and humanely produced food! It is no wonder that other quality-fast food places such as Panera Bread is now following suit. Yes, Food With Integrity Rocks!!! I also like the fact that Chipotle has introduced Sofritas to its menu options. I can be served quickly, under my direction, surrounded by upbeat music and friendly servers, and be supplied with an interesting story at the end (on the side of the bag made from recycled material). This month (May of 2015), Chipotle even has a Student Essay Contest, with $20,000 college scholarship for 10 winners.

Where else can you get so much without having to spend so much? Hey, they even do catering! So, if you should have a gathering of young graduates (who prefer consuming food with integrity) during the month of June, keep your local Chipotle in mind!
Lastly, all of you art history majors out there, just remember that Chipotle founder Steve Ells (an art history major back in college) did not have a business degree. But he did think creatively, out of a box, and persisted with integrity. There is hope for our world!
