Senator Bill Nelson Un-muzzles Censorship On “Climate Change”–>There Is Hope For Miami

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Recall our post of March 9, 2015, on “Governor Scott, Can You Really Wish This Away?”, here is our Florida Senator Democrat Bill Nelson‘s response. He used the annual Senate vote-a-rama to respond to Republican Governor Rick Scott‘s alleged ban on the terms “climate change” and “global warming“. Senator Nelson sponsored a Senate budget amendment that would block any legislation that would prohibit federal agency scientists from using terms related to atmospheric, climate, weather, oceanic processes, and climate change. It would set up a procedural hurdle to Senate consideration of any future legislation that censors a federal agency’s use of climate change science. Senator Nelson indicates that it is “common sense” to protect those terms during a speech this morning. “But we have all read news reports at the state level, at the local level, maybe even at the federal level that, indeed, some folks are trying to muzzle scientists from speaking about the science involving the oceans, the atmosphere, climate and the weather.” This morning, during his speech at the Senate floor, Senator Nelson indicated that melting glaciers could raise sea levels as much as 10 feet and change the Gulf Stream ocean current that warms Europe during winter. He also said, “At times of seasonal high tide, the streets of Miami are flooded.” “Scientists simply must have the tools and abilities to tell us what they observe without limitations on the terms by which they speak,” he added.
In light of another event earlier this month: U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican presidential candidate from Texas, told a NASA representative that NASA should focus more on space exploration and less on climate change, according to the Christian Science Monitor .
If such censorship on climate change has gone unchecked, quite possibly the plight of the Miami residents (as a result of climate change) would not be fully addressed.
Hear! Hear! Senator Nelson! We need your voice and representation! We need your common sense!
