The CDC is now recommending that Americans wear nonsurgical masks or face coverings while in public as officials say talking can be one of the ways the coronavirus can spread. NBC’s Kathy Park, Kelly O’Donnell, Sam Brock and Stephanie Ruhle report for Weekend TODAY, and Dr. Kavita Patel and Philip Rucker join for analysis, in the video “CDC Recommends Americans Cover Their Faces In Public, TODAY“, below:
President Trump does not intend to set an example by wearing any face mask, despite the recommendation by CDC, and said “Presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings and queens, I don’t know… somehow, I don’t see it for myself.” He also will not order any national Stay-At-Home order but will leave it up to individual state’s governors. As many states scramble for medical resources, President Trump criticized states for not having already bought necessary equipment before the crisis. President Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner said the federal stockpile is not the state stockpile. President Trump also indicated that it is not federal government’s responsibility by saying, “We’re not an ordering clerk.” in the video above.
But in cases of emergency, as President Trump had done so by invoking the national emergency over coronavirus on March 13, 2020, then it is up to the federal government to coordinate all disaster relief assistance. But instead of making effort to coordinate disaster relief assistance, the Trump administration had not given nationwide stay-at-home order, no widespread access to tests, no national quarter-mastering for procurement and allocation of critical medical supplies, no real use of the Defense Production Act to compel the production of supplies. Furthermore, the Trump administration is having FEMA bidding against states or claiming states’ shipments of materials that states have purchased on open market. Instead of assisting, the Trump administration has made it more difficult for states to procure material on their own, in this difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic. Yes, it is reprehensible!

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio ask other states for help with medical equipment and personnel as New York will soon reach its peak of COVID-19 before any other states. They promised to return the favor for other states in the future.

Berlin’s city government has accused the US of ‘an act of modern day piracy’ after a shipment of 200,000 protective face masks was hijacked on its way from China to Germany. The masks had been ordered by Berlin’s police force from an American manufacturer producing in China. But, according to Berlin authorities, they were confiscated in Bangkok and diverted to the US. As the coronavirus pandemic worsens, demand for crucial medical supplies, such as masks and respirators, has surged worldwide, leading to unprecedented buying practices and countries outbidding each other. New York state had its largest single-day death toll in the pandemic so far. The state now accounts for nearly half of all virus-related fatalities in the country. As hospitals continue to face critical shortages of medical equipment, New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, has issued an executive order to seize critically-needed supplies across the state and bring them to where they’re needed most, in the video “Coronavirus: US accused of hijacking shipments of masks, DW News“, below:
Dozens of countries have thanked Taiwan for its pledge to donate surgical masks. President Tsai Ing-wen announced Wednesday that Taiwan will send 10 million masks to countries stricken by the virus, including the U.S., U.K., several EU nations, and Taiwan’s diplomatic allies. Dozens of representative offices, as well as the U.S. State Department, have conveyed appreciation for the gesture of goodwill. For the first time, the president of the European Commission addressed Taiwan directly in a message of thanks. The Trump administration and health officials are now recommending that Americans should wear face masks while out in public to try to reduce the spread of coronavirus. So, let’s all try to stay home as much as possible! Wear mask or scarf or some coverings for mouth and nose when in public area. As for individual citizens, please wash your hands often (each time for at least 20 seconds), get tested if and when you can, stop shaking hands, observe social distancing (staying at least 6 feet from others), be sure to get sufficient rest, be well nourished, exercised, drink plenty of hot water and ginger tea, and decrease unnecessary social contacts.
Some of the basics needed in prepping for potential self-quarantine:
- Hand cleanser (soap & water & hand sanitizer)
- Cleaning products: for cleaning household surfaces such as countertops, faucets, door knobs, drawer pulls, light switches, telephone, handles of brooms, mops, etc., for reference list suggested by CDC, click HERE.)
- Laundry detergent
- Food (at least 3 weeks worth of staples: beans, pasta, rice, canned vegetables, frozen food, canned soup, shelf-stable milk, or dehydrated food, etc.)
- Water (be it in bottled water form or activated carbon filter pitcher and/or distiller)
- Face masks
- Prescription meds (talk to your doctor as to how much of your prescription meds need to be stocked)
- Over-the-counter medicine (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, cough medicine, etc.)
- Thermometer
- Robust WiFi
- Video conferencing services

- Exercise guides or equipment
