President Trump Declares National Emergency Due To Global COVID-19 Outbreak

On Friday, March 13, 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump addresses the nation at White House to declare a national emergency due to the global COVID-19 outbreak. His address comes just days after he imposed a European travel ban in an effort to control the spread of the virus, in the video “Coronavirus outbreak: Donald Trump to declare national emergency over COVID-19, LIVE“, below:
Florida Department of Education announced today, Friday, March 13, 2020, all state schools will close for one additional week beyond spring break (returning March 30 in Orange County). State testing will also be delayed by two weeks and all extra-curricular activities will be suspended.
Across USA: Los Angeles and San Diego schools will be closed on Monday, many sports events and activities are also canceled. Across the globe: Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is closed;London Marathon is postponed until October; England’s local elections are postponed until 2021; schools in Switzerland, Belgium, and most of Germany are also closing; travel restriction and quarantine measures are implemented in: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Malta, Hong Kong, Pakistan, and Ukraine.
As for individual citizens, please wash your hands often, stop shaking hands, be sure to get sufficient rest, be well nourished, exercised, drink plenty of hot water and ginger tea, and decrease unnecessary social contacts.
*Drive-by testing is speedy, effective, and necessary in order to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Paid leaves are also helpful in reducing the spread. Please contact your state legislators to speak in support of these two measures.
Some of the basics needed in prepping for potential self-quarantine:
- Hand cleanser (soap & water & hand sanitizer)
- Cleaning products: for cleaning household surfaces such as countertops, faucets, door knobs, drawer pulls, light switches, telephone, handles of brooms, mops, etc., for reference list suggested by CDC, click HERE.)
- Laundry detergent
- Food (at least 3 weeks worth of staples:beans, pasta, rice, canned vegetables, frozen food, canned soup, shelf-stable milk, or dehydrated food, etc.)
- Water (be it in bottled water form or activated carbon filter pitcher and/or distiller)
- Face masks
- Prescription meds (talk to your doctor as to how much of your prescription meds need to be stocked)
- Over-the-counter medicine (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, cough medicine, etc.)
- Thermometer
- Robust WiFi
- Video conferencing services
- Entertainment (check out: Netflix’s Pandemic & Amazon’s Contagion)
- Exercise guides or equipment
