Trump’s Executive Order Does Not Reunite Families

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

(Please click on red links & note magenta)
Don’t Relax Just Yet! Americans, Stay Enraged and Informed! Thousands of children may never reunite with their parents! It is also appalling to see many administrators are lying straight through their teeth. Is America transforming from a Beacon for the world into a Banana Republic?
Problems are not solved yet. Thanks to MSNBC’s diligent reporters, we realized that the 2,500 children who were already separated from their parents remain un-united with their parents because the executive order made no mention of any effort in reuniting them. HHS (Health and Human Services) has no intention of lifting any finger to help reunite these children with their parents. Senator Tim Kaine speaks with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes about questions that need to be asked:
- Will the families be indefinitely detained?
- Where will they be detained?
- What will the process be to determine their future status?
- Will you treat lawful asylum seekers as criminals?
- What to do with children already in custody?
Senator Tim Kaine is skeptical about legislative measures to resolve this problem in the near future because a bipartisan bill drafted by Senator Tim Kaine (D) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R) in Feb., 2018, with sixteen cosponsors (8-D and 8-R) , accomplishing 2 objectives that President Trump wanted:
- permanent protection for 1.8 million dreamers
- $25 billion over 10 years for border security (not a vanity project such as a wall)
But President’s political advisor apparently convinced President Trump to be tough on these immigrants, so Trump trashed this bill very quickly and had doubled down on cruel, harsh policies: ending DACA, ending the temporary protective status for refugees, threatening to end family reunifications, threatening to end diversity visa program. Senator Tim Kaine commented, “Trump will try to punish immigrants, lawful or unlawful, and we’re seeing it in the precipitous decline of foreign tourists willing to come here, foreign students willing to come to study here. That’s who this man is and why I am skeptical that anything he would support at this point would be anything good.”
New York , in concert with some other states, is also suing Trump Administration over policy of detaining minor children. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo commented that the executive order is a sham and a piece of press release to vent some of the anger. Governor Cuomo believes the executive order is not legally enforceable because the family detention centers cannot take place due to the Flores Settlement Agreement, with court decision that young children cannot be placed in detention centers for long duration. Governor Cuomo believes that President Trump is using these 2,500 children as political pawn and leverage for his desire for building a wall. The State of New York is now suing federal government for having violated due process rights of these children and parents. In the Federal Constitution, citizens and non-citizens still have their rights to be in their parental care. Governor Cuomo believes that the executive order will never be executed.
More report with Julia Ainsley and Jacob Soboroff seem to confirm New York Governor Cuomo’s suspicion. President Trump’s executive order does appear to mean nothing. Those 2,500 children are not being united with their parent. There is also issue with space for new arrivals.
