Interested in learning about Botanical Watercolor?
Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, color, and details of plant species, frequently in watercolor paintings. They must be scientifically accurate but often also have an artistic component and may be printed with a botanical description in book, magazines, and other media or sold as a work of art. Often composed in consultation with a scientific author, their creation requires an understanding of plant morphology and access to specimens and references.
There will be a Two-Day Class (Friday and Saturday, April 7 & 8, 2017, between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm EDT), at Leu Gardens (1920 N.Forest Ave., Orlando, FL 32803), on Botanic Watercolor, instructed by Redenta Soprano. This class will show students how to combine the best qualities of watercolor and colored pencils in a botanical drawing. Combining the two media quickens the process of finishing an illustration with a richly colored and finely detailed result. Aspects of both media will be discussed and there will be demonstrations of both watercolor and colored pencil overlay application. Prior drawing and painting experience are helpful but not required.
A materials list is available upon registration. Be sure to call 407-246-2620 to check if the class has any space left.
Redenta Soprano attended the School of Visual Arts, Moore College of Art and graduated from the State Univ. of New York with a degree in Natural Sciences and Art. Ms. Soprano has been a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators since 1983. She now works as a freelance illustrator, specializing in botanical art. Her paintings have been displayed around the United States, most recently at the Albin Polasek Museum in Winter Park.
