Donna’s DSO Soapery and Such LLC at Windermere Farmer’s Market
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
(Please click on red links & note magenta)
What drew me to Donna’s booth is the Scent…I was naturally attracted by that lingering smooth serenity on a lovely Friday afternoon as I strolled down the Windermere Farmer’s Market… one cannot help but wanting to look twice at her booth, noticing her well organized natural health and beauty products, carefully lined up and labeled with hand-written cards. My olfactory system has a natural affinity toward what is healthy and harmonious. Yes, I did purchase and tried some of her soaps (from Sandalwood, Pretty Patchouli, to dragonsblood), lip balm, and hair butter. Lip balm and dragonsblood soap for my daughter and sandalwood soap and hair butter for myself. That evening, I treated myself to the subtle lingering scent from Donna’s sandalwood soaps, making me feel as though I’ve just had an expensive spa weekend for the price of one bar of soap. That hair butter also was fantastic, bringing forth the shine without the feel of grease. If all of her products are as good as these soaps and hair butter, I think we’ve got a winner here. So, get to the Windermere Farmer’s Market before these natural health and beauty products are sold out or become part of the Whole Food or Target national chain, before the cost of her products quadruples or becomes altered by added preservatives. Donna’s DSO Soapery and Such LLC products are specially handcrafted in small batches and may be customized to suit individuals’ needs and preferences. Among her cold pressed 30-something different scent and flavor of soaps, there is the common base made from a blend of olive oil, coconut oil, palm kernel and caster oil…great for both health and beauty. At Donna’s booth, one would also find lotions for various parts of the body and natural deodorant (may be customized), salt and sugar scrubs, facial masks, various accessories, etc. I love the fact that all of her natural products are free from harmful preservatives and may be customized.

Did you know that “lye soap” refers almost exclusively to soaps made with sodium hydroxide . Soaps for cleansing are obtained by treating vegetable or animal oils and fats with a strongly alkaline solution. Fats and oils are composed of triglycerides; three molecules of fatty acids are attached to a single molecule of glycerol. The alkaline solution, which is often called lye brings about a chemical reaction known as saponification. In this reaction, the triglyceride fats are first hydrolyzed into free fatty acids, and then these combine with the alkali to form crude soap, an amalgam of various soap salts, excess fat or alkali, water, and liberated glycerol (glycerin). The glycerin is a useful by-product, which can be left in the soap product as a softening agent, or isolated for other uses. (Please disregard this last paragraph and simply enjoy these products if you’re not interested in chemistry or organic chemistry)
